A thought for the week from Fr Stuart:
Our celebration of Easter this year was unlike any I’ve ever known before. Instead of a packed church in full voice, there was just me and my wife and two children. How far it all felt from the joyful story of the Resurrecton of Jesus. However, it occurred to me that actually this year we were closer than ever to the original story of Easter, because that story of joy wasn’t first experienced and shared by great rejoicing congregations, it was first experienced and shared by people who were in shock, people who were mourning, people who were self-isolating and in lockdown. It was in a time of darkness that people saw the light of the Resurrection. What I’ve been trying to do, in this time of mourning and isolation, is to keep alert, keep my eyes and ears open for signs of new life and hope – and there is something to discover every single day. It’s in the darkness that even the smallest light is most clearly visible.
