Black History Month

This October, we are proud to celebrate Black History Month at Latymer All Saints. It is a special time for our school community to learn, reflect, and honour the contributions, achievements, and rich heritage of Black people in Britain and around the world. Throughout the month, our pupils will explore inspiring stories, deepen their understanding of Black history and culture, and celebrate the diversity that strengthens our school.

1. What We’re Learning

Across the school, pupils will take part in themed lessons, discussions, and creative activities that highlight key figures, historical events, and cultural traditions. From exploring influential leaders, artists, scientists, and activists, to learning about the stories of everyday individuals who shaped history, our children will develop a broader and more inclusive understanding of the world.

2. Celebrating Through Creativity

Classes will engage in art, music, drama, and writing projects inspired by Black history and culture. These activities encourage pupils to express what they learn, celebrate diverse voices, and recognise the importance of representation.

3. Building Respect and Understanding

Black History Month supports our commitment to promoting equality, celebrating diversity, and fostering respect within our school. Through meaningful conversations and thoughtful learning, pupils are encouraged to value different experiences and appreciate the positive impact of diversity on our community.

4. Continuing the Conversation All Year

While October highlights this celebration, our dedication to diversity and inclusion continues throughout the year. We aim to ensure that our curriculum reflects a wide range of voices and perspectives, and that every child feels seen, respected, and valued.
